Upcoming Disc Golf Events in Rochester!

2012 Rochester Ice Bowl

This year's Rochester Ice Bowl will be held Saturday, February 11th at MCC. More details will be posted soon, but I wanted to get the date out there, hoping that this will allow even more people to attend.

For those that don't know, Ice Bowl is a trade name done annual with the goal of raising money/food for local food cupboards nationally. This year we will be donating to Foodlink, a great organization that helps feed the hungry in the Greater Rochester Area.  100% of this event goes to charity.

I've talked to ESL and there are no major hockey events that weekend so we have the back room of the tap room/bill grays reserved! Anyone interested in helping me run this or just would like to help out let me know. Again, stay tuned, a flyer will be up very soon. I hope everyone can make it out for a really good cause!

38th Annual Rochester Flying Disc Open (RFDO)

JUST ANNOUNCED... The 38th Annual RFDO will be taking place on August 11th and 12th, 2012!  This will be the BIGGEST WEEKEND tournament ever held here in Rochester. We have worked very closely with the PDGA to get our tournament strategically placed in order to attract the top Touring Pros!!!  Our Supertour/ A-tier event is in between 2 NT events, the Brent Hambrick and the Vibram Open. I have little doubt that we will sell out both AM and the Pro pools at 72 each. This is going to be a great event, following this town putting on an incredible Am Worlds!!!

Driving Wishes & Ringing Chains for Children

Thanks to everyone for showing up for the doubles fundraiser event at Parma.  It was a beautiful day, and we all did something great for some kids in need. 34 people showed up and together we got a truckload of presents and a grand total of $2,180 to donate to St. Joseph's Villa!

*Special Thanks to our sponsors: Nick Day, Larry Day, Heather Day, Cat Fallia, Tony Inzana and the GRDGC... and another special thanks to John Alloco for helping put together this great event. Hope to see you next year! -Mike D

2011 GRDGC Club Championships

This year the GRDGC Championships will be held at MCC on Saturday, November 12th, starting at 9am.

This will be a 2 round event with lunch in between. It is free for all current GRDGC Members (bring your bag tags). There will be multiple CTP's and this year we're introducing a special something for the winner!

We met with the manager at the Tap Room/Bill Grays at ESL today and are working out the food details. There is no hockey tournament that weekend so they are going to reserve the whole back section of the Tap Room for us.

All money from club memberships goes towards course improvements and small percentage towards this event. If you felt that it is too late and doesn't make sense to join, please reconsider. This is how we fund tee pads/signs/extra basket locations/ect...Your membership is truly making our courses better.  Club Memberships are $25.   This year we teamed up with Paragon Disc Golf to offer a nice membership package including a custom dry fit shirt, microfiber towel, and bag tag! (add $2 for 2XL, $3 for 3XL)

Thanks to everyone who came out to this year's Ace Race!

Thank you to everyone who made the

2011 PDGA Amateur & Junior World Championships a great success!

Thanks to everyone who made it out and supported the cause!

Cement Tee Pads at Parma DGC

Thanks to the hard work of numerous GRDGC members, the tee pads at Parma are done!  Thanks to all that helped make this happen.  The course has also been tweaked a little, with some new hole additions.  Hope everyone enjoys!

Remember that it is a requirement as a club member to participate in work days to be eligible for the year end club finals as well as the year end doubles final.

We really hope to see you all out there. This is really important for our club in preparation for 2011 AM Worlds! We all need to come together to make this happen.

Cement Tee Pads at Widener Park (formally Baker Park)

Widener Park disc golf course now has cement tee pads!  A huge thanks to the numerous people that came out both Friday and Saturday and helped make this project a success.  Click the image for the rest of the pictures!

We worked about 5 hours Friday night, putting the forms together, digging the tee boxes out, back filling around the forms, and some much needed bush trimming.  Saturday morning, a couple early-birds were at the course around 6am starting right back into back filling around the forms.  Around 7am the first cement truck pulled in, and by just a little after 11am the final tee box was finished.  After some lunch provided by the GRDGC, we worked for another couple hours moving some of the remaining dirt.  Also, a thanks to Pat Harris for taking pictures of both the work days.
